Are Student Loans Dischargeable in Bankruptcy?

Typically, student loans are not dischargeable in bankruptcy. The one exception is if the borrower on the student loans can show undue hardship. If they can show, number one, that they can't make any repayment and still maintain a minimal standard of living for themselves and their dependents, number two, their circumstances will continue for the foreseeable future, and number three, for the last five years, they have tried to work out other options on repayment and have failed.
